Memphis Milano was founded in 1981
by a group of architects and designers led by Ettore Sottsass. The aim of Memphis was to create a “platform", a workshop, an observatory for critical and design reflections, against the aesthetics, materials and production modes of industrial design. With unique patterns and colour blocking, Memphis developed a collection of design pieces that for the first time were not only functional, but also symbolic. In 2023 the brand followed a rebranding centered around a higher contrast and a more contemporary look. The logo, designed again by Christoph Radl, reflected a more minimal approach, maintening its core essence. This rebranding was officially launched in occasion of the 2024 Salone del Mobile with the Memphis Milano catalogue featuring the pieces in production at that time.
